YOU'LL NEVER KNOW DEAR - HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU

As you can see by the little block on the side of this page - it's been 3 years since we said goodbye to you. I WILL get back to this site... one day, pup. ;-) It's a yucky day out there this morning - the skies really are gray...

I wanted to post a picture I had of you on my lap in the living room... you would sit on top of me and I would look at you in the fireplace..It was always one of my favorites. I can't seem to find it so I'll add this one instead.

another time - another place... another year

Oh, RoseBud... My last post was a year ago today. When I think of you I see you playing outside or on the beach... maybe because we have so many pictures of you there... I was reading the letter I wrote to you a few days after the 16th - two years ago... Among other things, I said I was "glad you got to see the ocean and walk in the sand and go to so many places..." Most dogs don't get to sleep in a comfy Hilton bed or order room service or go on all the adventures you went on. You were one lucky pup, RoseBud. I promise to get back to this soon and continue to document your fabulous puppy dog life.

How do you measure - measure a year?

RoseBud must have heard that song (Seasons of Love) a thousand times since we are big time fans of the show Rent. It just so happens that we have tickets tonight to see the new touring production with the old Roger & Mark.

It's been one year (525,600 minutes) since you've been gone... with a thousand sweet kisses, pup - we love you and we miss you!

RoseBud always celebrated her birthdays with lots of food (preferably meatballs!) and lots of gifts. She had a Super Sweet First Birthday that was lots of fun...

Invitation:

Treats: bone shaped petit fours, chocolate covered marshmallows with rosebuds on them, paw print cookies, pup cakes and more...

Craft: All the kids made frames and had their picture taken with RoseBud.

It's been 6 months since we said goodbye to RoseBud. After she died we started a journal of her. We wanted to capture EVERY memory we ever had - not that we'd EVER forget the time she spent with us. It's full of nicknames and places we visited and things we did... One memory is how we would always say "Oh, RoseBud..."

Oh, RoseBud - what do you want to do today?

Oh, RoseBud - we better take you outside.

Dear RoseBud,

I know you stayed at all kinds of hotels - La Quinta and the Radisson and the Hilton and a couple beautiful beach houses but I'm sorry you never got to stay at a 5 star hotel. We always talked about taking you to New York City to stay at the Plaza like Eloise and her pug Weenie and we never got around to it. We were just in Bedford Springs (which we also talked about taking you to visit because it's pet friendly) and thought of you - you would have liked sleeping in the big comfy bed!

Soon after RoseBud passed away I was greeted by a sea of dandelions in my Dad's back yard. Got a little creative and made RoseBud's name in Dandelion heads.

Dear Flowers,

I'm sorry I haven't watered you since the middle of April. It's now September. I know a lot of you are still holding on but some of you just couldn't take it anymore. :( RoseBud and I used to come back from our morning walk and "give you guys a drink" and since she's been gone there really hasn't been much of that (if any) at all. RoseBud would get so excited when we walked in the door and I went for the watering can. She knew we would be going outside for a little longer. We would go in and out a few times to refill and each time we went back out she was just as excited as the first. Hopefully there will be more Buds (in all respects) in the future and I promise to water all of you.

Diamond in the Ruff

When RoseBud was just a little pup she visited her "cousin" Diamond.

It was her very first trip out to visit the family.

Diamond recently passed away. She was fifteen years old. We'll miss you, Diamond! We hope RoseBud was there to greet you at the Rainbow Bridge.

Just this side of heaven lies the Rainbow Bridge.

When a beloved pet dies, it goes to the Rainbow Bridge.

It makes friends with the other animals and frolics over hills and peaceful lush meadows of green.

They are as healthy and playful as we remember them in days gone by.

Together, the animals play, but the day comes when a pet will suddenly stop and look into the distance... bright eys intent, eager body quivering.

Suddenly recognizing you, your pet bounds quickly across the green fields and into your embrace.

You celebrate in joyous reunion. You will never again separate.

Happy tears and kisses are warm and plentiful, your hands caress the face you missed.

You look into the loving eyes of your pet and know that you never really parted.

You realize that though out of sight, your love had been remembered.

You cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

Our Outer Banks trip in October 2006 wasn't quite what we expected...

It started out ok.

Then there was an unexpected flight.

With a layover here.

And RoseBud's SECOND stay at a hotel. A 30+ day stay actually.

Ready to go home. Just need to buckle up!

Visit to Williamsburg, VA.

Visit to Berkley Springs, WV. Home of warm mineral springs noted as Medicine Springs in 1747. In 1776 George Washington's family and friends drew up a plat of 134 lots, named the streets, and incorporated the Town of Bath. The magic of the springs prevailed and the town and surrounding area are known by Berkeley Springs. My dog tags are there somewhere!

Traveling Dog

The Bud was a Traveling Dog for sure. RoseBud loved going on trips - whether ten minutes long or ten hours long. She was very good in the car. Not sure where we were going in this one (we were stuck in traffic on the Parkway) or why she was on my lap and NOT in the back seat in her seat belt (where she almost always sat) but its one of my favorites. Probably one of the highlights of this little pup's life was getting the mail! I don't know who ever said that dogs don't like mailmen because this dog LOVED Tom!!!

Every day through the mail slot - A TREAT! If there was too much mail to put in the mail slot (I'm a catalog and magazine junkie so that was pretty often) there would be a bundle inside the door - treat and all!!!

One of the hardest things to date is hearing the mail come through the door and NOT hearing RoseBud barking in excitement or the pitter patter of little paws running anxiously to see what treasures were to be found.

To say that we have a lot of pictures of RoseBud would be an understatement. We have THOUSANDS of photographs of her. Her whole life is documented. She was a bit of a ham when it came to the camera. I'm not really sure if she LOVED having her picture taken or if it was just something she tolerated but the girl could WORK IT!

Oh so soft and cuddly...

Remember the Monchhichi (yes, that's the correct spelling) from the 80s? The Bud reminds of one in this photo. Monchhichis were monkey-like creatures who lived in the forest land of Monchia at the very top of tall trees well above the clouds. (Bud & "Spider" - June 2006)

RoseBud was great at finding just where the sun was coming in the house and sitting there. She'd squeeze her way into the smallest spot possible - in between the bars of the Pilates machine, on the bathroom rug, etc...

Back from the beach...

We are back from our summer beach vacation to the Outer Banks - Corolla, NC. We had a nice trip but it was bittersweet to come home. We usually head straight to my Dad's house (her only sitter) to pick up The Bud. This trip - we went straight home.

The gazebo in the background of the first picture is the one she's standing by in my FAVORITE photo of The Bud. Perfect curly tail, perfect "smile" and perfect "hurry up and let's go play" look... Click on photo for a larger view.

Some background on the plastic dog... When we first brought RoseBud home we had her for ten days and then we went to Disney World for ten days with my inlaws. The Bud stayed with my Dad. We brought along the plastic dog and have since brought it with us EVERY trip we have gone on without her. RoseBud has done her share of traveling but this "dog" has been all over - near and far, toured around the world in Epcot (and photographed in each country) and here's a picture having dinner outside of The Nook - Charlottesville, VA.

She had one heck of a wardrobe.

RoseBud was a bit of a fashionista. She had a large selection of collars (mostly Italian leather), an array of costumes and some rockin clothes. I won't even get into the size of her jewelry box right now!

I guess it all started long ago. She came home from Sandy's (the breeder) in a cut up tube sock. You'd pay a lot of money for deconstructed clothes like that today. Even when she was a little pup she was so fashion forward!

She soon outgrew it and we put it on a pug beanie baby.

Here is the last outfit she was photographed in. We found this little dog polo and pants at Target.

Yes, for those of you that don't know, they make PANTS for DOGS - tail hole and all!!!

It is with great sadness that we bring you the news that our beloved RoseBud passed away April 16th, 2008. She peacefully took her last breath in my arms that afternoon. We were both by her side. She was 8 years and 4 months old.

RoseBud led a wonderful life full of family and friends and lots of excitement. She was the CEO (Canine Executive Officer) of our company Puppy Dog Productions and loved to travel and explore and meet new people.

She had her own way of talking (okay, barking) that was fully understandable to those well trained in her verse.

RoseBud loved to sleep, eat and play (usually in that order) and was the best companion anyone could ever ask for.

This is for RoseBud - to remember her and to be remembered...

Rest in Peace, Puppy Dog.

We will miss you and love you forever!
